CUT THRU: A View on 21st Century Thai Art

The Institute of Contemporary Arts Singapore is proud to present CUT THRU: A View on 21st Century Thai Art, an exhibition of nine Thai contemporary artists. The exhibition is guest curated by Loredana Pazzini-Paracciani and includes mixed media installations, paintings, videos and photography works by participating artists: Angkrit Ajchariyasophon, Chulayarnnon Siriphol, Chusak Srikwan, Nawapol Thamrongrattanarit, Piyatat Hemmatat, Preeyachanok Ketsuwan, Ruangsak Anuwatwimon, Tawan Wattuya and Vichaya Mukdamanee.

Curatorial Statement "CUT THRU: A View on 21st Century Thai Art" is a gesture. The gesture of slicing through vernacular culture, secular beliefs and religion in order to access and investigate the complex and multi-layered 21st century Thai society.Based on the idea of materiality - industrial / traditional, secular / religious, old / new - this exhibition brings together recent bodies of works by nine emerging art practitioners from Thailand, spotlighting iconic elements of daily life, vernacular culture and religion.
