Synopsis
100 Times Reproduction of Democracy interrogates the notion of copyright ownership in reproducible artistic works such as films. The documentary poses a question whether a film should belong to a funder, a director, the audience, or a collector; at the same time, this very question is paralleled with the notion of democracy ownership in Thailand, whether it belongs to the government, the military, or the people.
100 Times Reproduction of Democracy เป็นการตั้งคำถามต่อการถือครองลิขสิทธิ์ในผลงานศิลปะที่สามารถผลิตซ้ำได้อย่าง “ภาพยนตร์” ว่าเป็นของผู้ให้ทุน ผู้สร้างภาพยนตร์ ผู้ชมภาพยนตร์ หรือนักสะสมผลงานศิลปะ โดยตั้งคำถามคู่ขนานไปกับการถือครองลิขสิทธิ์ในประชาธิปไตยของประเทศไทยว่าเป็นของรัฐบาล ทหาร หรือประชาชน
Director’s statement
Chulayarnnon Siriphol was hired in 2013 by an organisation to produce a short film titled “A Cock Kills a Child by Pecking on the Mouth of an Earthen Jar”. Both parties made a verbal agreement that Chulayarnnon could submit the work to any film contest under his name. However, after the “A Cock Kills a Child by Pecking on the Mouth of an Earthen Jar” won an award from a short film festival, Chulayarnnon was accused of violating the ownership rights of the organisation and thus obliged to give the award certificate to the organisation. He then challenged the notion of copyright ownership of the film by re-rendering the short film “A Cock Kills a Child by Pecking on the Mouth of an Earthen Jar” for 100 times until the quality of image and sound was destroyed. He later distributed the re-rendered works as 100 editions of the original film with a price of 100 Baht each, treating each of them as an authentic works of art. By doing so, Chulayarnnon poses the question about the copyright ownership of the film in tandem with the ownership of Thai democracy by linking Thai political history from the revolution in 1932 to present.
ในปี 2556 จุฬญาณนนท์ ศิริผล ได้รับการว่าจ้างจากองค์กรแห่งหนึ่งให้ผลิตภาพยนตร์สั้นเรื่อง ไก่จิกเด็กตายบนปากโอ่ง โดยทำการตกลงทางวาจากันว่าจุฬญาณนนท์สามารถนำผลงานไปส่งประกวดได้ แต่เมื่อผลงานภาพยนตร์ได้รับรางวัลจากเทศกาลภาพยนตร์สั้น จุฬญาณนนท์กลับถูกกล่าวอ้างลิขสิทธิ์ในผลงานและต้องมอบใบประกาศนียบัตรที่ได้รับจากการประกวดคืนให้แก่องค์กรแห่งนั้น จุฬญาณนนท์จึงเริ่มตั้งคำถามต่อลิขสิทธิ์ในผลงานภาพยนตร์ผ่านการผลิตซ้ำภาพยนตร์สั้นเรื่องไก่จิกเด็กตายบนปากโอ่ง จำนวน 100 ครั้ง จนคุณภาพของภาพและเสียงของภาพยนตร์สั้นต้นฉบับถูกทำลายลง แล้วนำไปขายเป็นจำนวน 100 อิดิชั่น ในราคาอิดิชั่นละ 100 บาท ให้กลายเป็นผลงานศิลปะที่มีความเป็นของแท้ โดยจุฬญาณนนท์ตั้งคำถามคู่ขนานไปกับการถือครองลิขสิทธิ์ประชาธิปไตยของประเทศไทยผ่านการเชื่อมโยงกับประวัติศาสตร์การเมืองไทยตั้งแต่เริ่มมีการเปลี่ยนแปลงการปกครองเรื่อยมาจนถึงการเมืองไทยร่วมสมัยในปัจจุบัน
